Engineer's notebook, 1905-1907.

Engineer's notebook kept by future DuPont Company vice president Willis F. Harrington while an entry-level engineer at the Barksdale Works in Wisconsin. The notebook contains tables showing the composition of various grades of powder, the quatitities of cartridges fitting into various sized containers, chemical formulas and recipes, and other useful notes on processes and operations at the plant.

Willis F. Harrington was born on July 24, 1882, in Farmington, Delaware. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1902 and took a degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1905 he went to work for the Du Pont Company in the Explosives Department and in 1924 he became general manager of the Dyestuffs Department.
